Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment has become a commonly heard word in workplaces, since the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (MHOR) 1992 made it a statutory requirement for all employers to provide and evaluate assessment of risk in all manual handling situations faced by employees.

Aim:

  • To reduce the risk of injury
  • To explore opportunities for employees to avoid undertaking manual handling tasks

Manual Handling Risk Assessment is a very specialised area. If an assessor does not understand how injury occurs, can he/she take steps to reduce risks?

It is known that Manual Handling causes/contributes to injury therefore the appropriateness of accurate and informed Risk Assessment, training and support is paramount in promoting safer systems of work.
